Last week I shared with you my love of green smoothies and my 7 days 7 smoothies challenge. See that post for more info on how to construct a fab green smoothie and the reasons why I love them so!

Each day last week I ate a delicious smoothie containing a large amount of green veggies along with different combos of fruit and other add ins and toppings. I enjoyed them so much I ended up continuing the challenge for an extra day!

I thought it would be good to round up all of the tasty green smoothie recipes I created for the challenge:

P1030600Apple Pie Green Smoothie

P1030654Tropical Green Smoothie

P1030706Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Green Smoothie

P1030749Chocolate Cherry Beet Green Smoothie

P1030820Carrot Cake Green Smoothie

P1030843Nutty Berry Green Smoothie

P1030900Raspberry Carob Green Smoothie

P1030912‘Bounty’ (chocolate coconut) Green Smoothie

I thoroughly enjoyed making and eating all of these! Big thanks to Jessica and Jemma who have been following the challenge along with me – and any of you guys that have been doing it on the quiet. Check out their blogs for some more fab variations including Jemma’s Strawberries and Cream and Jess’s Terry’s Chocolate Orange!

Interestingly I noticed that my energy levels have been very good this week despite having a bit of a stressful time at work. I’ve also found that it has been easier to focus at work. I do feel that my increased intake of raw food, green veggies, protein and ‘super’ foods via these green smoothies has contributed to this, of course it could just be psychosomatic! I particularly think that adding maca powder to my smoothies has been useful due to its support of the adrenals (linked to supporting stress).

Have I convinced any green smoothie virgins to give them a try? If your already a green smoothie lover what’s your favourite combo? Which of the green smoothies above look the best to you? I loved them all but if I had to choose I’d go for the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup!

Hope your having a great weekend!

They all look so good, but the thought of drinking it just is not for me! I have no idea why, but I prefer spinach etc in savoury dinners. But if I ever get the courage to try one I will be using one of the recipes (or from Jess as she made some that also sound like puddings!)

I’m hanging on to my smoothie virginity for a while longer :-) I do need a wake up call at the moment though so maybe green monsters can provide me with that extra incentive.

Your smoothies always look amazing Laura.

I’ll be jumping on the GM smoothie this week as I’ve got a bag of spinach the size of my head that needs using up!

Just a question. Do you find Supermarkets cheaper for fruit and veg or local greengrocers? I got a few veggies the other day from a market stall and was a bit shocked that they cost me a tenner!

I then popped into Asda and everything I needed was a pound or less… I’d love any tips on cheap fruits and veggies if you have any :)

Thanks for the mention :)

I never would have returned to Green Smoothies if it wasn’t for your posts, and how beautifully presented your creations were (and still are!)

Of your combinations, I have to say that the concept of a Bounty Green Monster sets my tastebuds away, as Bountys were my all-time favourite chocolate bar in my early childhood (before plain old Dairy Milks stole my teenage heart hehe) The Chocolate Orange one that I made was the best combination I put together myeslf, although I doubt anything can top the Bounty concept. I need to try out that one asap.

I loved reading all your GM recipes! I’ve been having a lot more of them lately after a long time not having any. I was inspired by your choc/peanut butter one to make a similar one this morning, I guzzled it down!

These do look fantastic, but I’m afraid I’m a bit of a traditionalist (read: lazy) when it comes to smoothies! So I tend yo just wizz frozen berries, coconut milk, protein powder and some banana or pb. I get plenty of greens in salads and other stuff though, as I agree they’re important.

Like Jess and Jemma though I think you should do a smoothie page — it’s becoming a bit of a TM for you!

I’m addicted to green smoothies—and yours all look amazing! It’s crazy how beautiful they can be.
I’m totally on board with the maca too. It helps me to focus and not freak out. I just bought more—I am going to need it with my current workload!
Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Thanks for your comment- I did do the positive visualisation thing before my first half, and I think as doing a marathon is a lot in the brain I need to do that- it was recommended on marathon talk that during the taper spend the time you would spent running, thinking positive thoughts, race strategy etc, so I will do that. I am really looking forward to the feeling of accomplishment (and the medal haha) so I will focus on that a bit.

I am too a green smoothie virgin and also smoothie in a bowl virgin. I have to admit to not really understanding the craze over smoothies. I prefer to eat my food rather than drink it. However, the flavours you are all coming up with are beginning to tempt me to try!

I definitely think you should do a smoothie page…if nothing else, they make such beautiful photos! ;-)

Have a nice Sunday!

Your smoothies look amazing, they all look so pretty! I already love green smoothies – had three amazing ones this weekend as I went home to my parents house and was reunited with my blender (and a fridge full of fresh ingredients!) x

Maria – I think its interesting that some people like the idea and others just don’t, I can’t imagine having a smoothie without some greens in now, weird!

Babywilt – have a try of one and see what you think – they may not be for everyone but at least if you try and then don’t like you know!

Leanne – great question – it depends on the green grocer and the time you visit it. Theres a green grocer near my work that charges a fortune and the produce is horrible, then theres another one I go to that are a lot more reasonable. If you go later in the day – especially to markets you can get some great bargains. It also depends on the kind of fruit and veg your after – the supermarkets can have some great deals on buy one get one free etc, but I can’t find kale for love nor money – I guess its just down to seeing whats available for you locally. Hope that helps!

Jess – I can’t wait to give your chocolate orange one a try!

Deisegirl – yey! So glad you enjoyed it!

Flo – excellent – looking forward to reading about it on your blog!

Alison – I think its good for some and not for others, I just love greens so much and want them at every opportunity!

Kimberly – glad you enjoyed it!

Kate – great, hope you have fun experimenting!

Lisa – glad your finding maca useful too!

Maria – thanks for coming back, sounds like you have a great approach!

Jessica – I guess they aren’t for everyone but I just find them so much more filling as the liquid gives them more volume and they just taste so good with the flavours combined!

Lily – Glad you’ve been able to get back with your blender!

Aw thank you that’s a great tip! Frozen veggies and fruits seem a heck of a lot cheaper too so I might have to live out of my freezer for a bit :(

I got some kale from Asda the other day, 97p for 200g :)

I’m not sure if I did something wrong or perhaps my tastebuds are off but I tried a GM this past week and absolutely hated it. I really think it was because of the frozen banana, even though I love bananas, but you, and many other bloggers, make them look so good. Is there any way to make green smoothies without the bananas? I really would love to try the chocolate peanut butter one especially.

Thanks! :D

Jolly lass – you can completely use different fruit instead of banana – if you like the sound of the choc pb one try using frozen mango or peaches which have a nice neutral sweetness!
