If you have been reading KHGS for a while, you will know what a big green smoothie fan I am. You will also probably know that I like to eat my smoothies, rather unusually for some, from a bowl. I find that this helps me to slow down my eating (leading to improved digestion) and making me feel fuller. I also enjoy ‘bulking up’ my smoothies with the addition of toppings. To make this not quite as frosty as my normal smoothies I left out the ice for a lovely room temperature treat. To make this take-to-work friendly, just bottle up your smoothie, pour into a bowl at work and add your toppings (taken to work in a little tub or jar). You might get some strange looks but you’ll be the one laughing when you have glowing skin and great immunity from all the greens!

Apple Green Smoothie (in a bowl) – serves 1, vegan

  • 1 apple
  • 3 handfuls of spinach
  • 1 cup of Alpro unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder or 1/2 cup of Alpro vanilla pouring yoghurt
  • 1/4 – 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon

Blend all ingredients together until smooth and thick (you might need to stop the blender and push down the ingredients and then blend again). Serve in a bowl topped with granola, chopped nuts, seeds, dried fruit or nut butter. I used some tahini and my amazing Sweet and Salty Nutty Topping.

Here’s all of my Alpro #deskfest recipes:

No 1 – Super Mega Green Smoothie

No 2 – Vanilla Pouring Yoghurt with Berries and Sweet and Salty Nutty Topping

No 3 – Warm Chocolate Hazelnut Mocha Protein Shake

No 4 – Almond Chia Seed Pudding with Warm Cherries

Have you tried eating a smoothie from a bowl before? I’ve really enjoyed trying to think a little outside the box when it comes to healthy breakfasts you can eat at your desk! What would be your perfect deskfest?

Smoothies are so much better from a bowl! Makes them feel much more like a meal an greater surface area for toppings :)

I love eating smoothies in a bowl, but I haven’t done so for a while! My perfect deskfest would probably be a smoothie or overnight oats.

Can’t look beyond waffles at the moment. I wish we could get the frozen ones they have out in the US! Not too healthy but, can’t be all the time, right!? ;-)

I love things like that in the summer, but right now I am needing warm porridge in the mornings!

I LOOOOVE smoothies in a bowl – it lasts so much longer! And I’ve never used an apple in a smoothie before, interesting…

I’ve had a few smoothies in a bowl – all inspired by you! :-) If they go in a bowl then they’ve gotta be thick and creamy :-)
