Can you believe that it’s Wednesday already? This week seems to be flying, being back at work has been none stop, and yesterday I took some time out to do a very fun Google Hangout all about using Evernote for Healthy Living and Fitness (you can watch it via that link) and then today I have several Uniquely Healthy coaching clients, good stuff!

These are my eats from last Friday when I was on holiday from work. James and I decided to have a day in town and go to the cinema. I got up after a little lie in and had some warm water with a squeeze of lemon juice followed by a butter blended coffee:

IMG_1506

Delicious as always! Then for breakfast I had some coconut oil roasted apricots to use up. I decided to go for a sweet and savoury mix (a bit like my latest favourite Bacon, Squash and Almond Butter Salad recipe!) by combining them with smoked bacon and a couple of scrambled eggs:

IMG_1513

That was lovely and filled me right up! Then it was off into town. We stopped for some coffee before heading for an early showing at the cinema. We went to 9Bar Coffee and I had an Americano:

PicMonkey Collage

It was nice to try out somewhere different for coffee! Then we went to see Die Hard 5, I wasn’t a huge fan to be honest, plus it was at the big cinema rather than my favourite little independent Tyneside Cinema.

After that I was ready for lunch so we went to Olive and Bean. I had a big feta and olive salad:

IMG_1527

That was a mammoth salad and they didn’t skimp on the feta or olives, delish!

Then James and I separated so he could go record shopping and I could do my thing. I had a look in Topshop as I had a gift card from Christmas just begging to be spent. However I didn’t really see anything that took my fancy apart from this dress:

IMG_1528

I thought it was pretty and definitely my style but couldn’t decide so I left it for another time. What do you guys think?

Then I hit Waitrose (for squash, cottage cheese and pouring yoghurt), the health food store (cashew butter and supplements) and the market (cauliflower, lettuce, peppers, beef bones for broth)where I found these:

IMG_1530

Huge boxes of blueberries for just 99p each! I bought a couple and now I wish I’d bought more to stash in the freezer.

I had a look around some vintage clothing stores then went for another coffee while I waited for James then we came home. I caught up on emails and blog comments and then made dinner:

IMG_1534

This was chicken curry made with Rustic Indian Mirchi sauce alongside some steamed cabbage and the most delicious pilaf style cauliflower rice. I fried the cauliflower rice with a finely chopped onion and some spices and added some water until it was cooked. Then I added some parsley. It was fab!

Dessert was frozen blueberries mixed with full fat greek yoghurt topped with tahini:

IMG_1540

Plus more tahini to finish the jar! Then I made a double sized chai hot chocolate:

IMG_1545

I made up a mug of sweet chai tea and mixed it with cocoa powder and some almond milk to make a spicier, naturally sweet hot chocolate.

A great day of food! I enjoyed everything so much, shame about the movie ;-) What was the last movie you went to see? Best foodie bargain you’ve came across recently?

Wowza – that olive and feta salad is huge!

I’m hoping to see Wreck it Ralph today but all the showings are 3D only *shakes fist*

I’ve banned myself from buying reduced stickered foods for Lent (I always buy the cheap, nasty nasty snacks because I can’t resist a bargain) so I’ve not snagged up much in the way of bargains recently :(

Ooh you’re making me hungry! I love the sound of cauliflower rice, but I’ll eat anything that’s curry-spiced!

I love the look on that dress, think it would look fab on you, esp with your hair colour. That salad looks incredible, I always appreciate a place that doesn’t stint on salads! I stumbled across cashew butter, nut butter and peanut butter knocked down to £2 a jar at Sainsbury’s the other day – am now stocked up for a while :)

Love Olive & Bean :) I got some of those blueberries too and put them in my freezer! I think that dress would look totally gorgeous on you! Very Laura I reckon ;)
Oh and heads up on Almonds & Raisins in case you didn’t know, they’ve just moved to the Grainger Market yesterday. I haven’t been yet but apparently it’s a lot smaller…

Yep I noticed the sign up a few days ago and when I popped in the lady was telling me they were moving. I wonder if they are losing their refrigerated section? I wish I’d bought a load more of the berries, fingers crossed they might have some more on Saturday :-)

I totally think you should head back to the shop & purchase that dress. It’ll look gorgeous on you girl!! Your lunch salad looks so fresh, and just very tasty!! :)

That salad is amazing!
The last film I was was Django unchained, which was excellent (although we saw it on Christmas day- not that festive!)- I have seen some of the Die hard films and I think they are OK, I do like action films but I like a more interesting story too.
That dress is very pretty, although I wonder if the waist is in a funny place? I love the pattern on it though.

I wish we had went to see that instead now! You have a good point about the waist, I should have really tried it on!

Are you on the Atkins diet?

Reply

Laura February 20, 2013 at 7:46 pm

Nope, does it look like I’m on the Atkins diet? Not sure what they eat on that, I’m just eating stuff that makes me feel good at the moment :-)

Reply

Lois February 20, 2013 at 8:06 pm

Yes it does, that is why I asked! Thing like ‘cauliflower rice’ made me wonder. I am genuinely curious as to why you don’t eat carbohydrates?

Reply

Laura February 21, 2013 at 6:59 am

Sorry, I didn’t mean that to sound cheeky, I just know a little about Atkins so was surprised that you thought it looked like that. I do still eat carbs from vegetables and fruit but I have found that my body does better on more protein and fats – grains and beans have left me feeling bloated so I’m seeing how I go without them for a while. I’m also interested in eating more fats because I’m trying to balance my hormones and my research has pointed me in the direction of eating more fat, which as I like eating like that works for me! I’m still learning about my body, and experimenting but I’m not labelling my diet or cutting anything out completely, just seeing how I go. In the past I’ve found limiting carbs helped me loss weight, but I’m certainly not aiming for weight loss now hence why I’m trying to keep the fats coming alongside the fruit and veggies. Hope that helps, just let me know if you have any more questions, I can direct you to different sources of info if you’d like :-)

I like the dress – it would be too short for me but I think it would look fantastic on you.

The last movie I saw was Spiderman 3 (love any superhero movies – I rented it on iTunes!) and I’m going to watch Sinister tomorrow which I’m sure will scare the crap out of me ;) I do love the Die Hard movies but only 1-3. I don’t really think the franchise needed reviving and I really feel they’ve run out of ideas/become a parody of themselves.

Haha, I always find Olive/Bean’s salads too small. Says a lot about me really!

I loved Spiderman 3! Especially the guy playing spiderman ;-) I didn’t mind Die Hard 4 but this one was way too much!

That definitely sounds like a pretty amazing day, but that’s definitely a shame about the movie. I really like Bruce Willis, but even I have to admit that some of the Die Hard movies aren’t anything special. The last movie I went to see in theaters was Silver Linings Playbook and I really liked it. Part of that might have been because Bradley Cooper is so easy on the eyes, though ;)

I love the dress but not sure if I like the neckline. Maybe its one of those that you have to see on.

Best recent foodie bargains – alpro &almond breeze almond milk 3 for £3 at tesco and a double height jar of meridian peanut butter for £2 at The Nut Centre in york (awesome little aladdins cave of a health food shop). Couldnt stock up too much on the pb tho as couldnt carry it!

Reply

Laura February 20, 2013 at 7:49 pm

I think I know that little nut store – its fab! Haha, hate it when your ability to carry stuff prevents being able to buy as much as you’d like! I have that problem with squash!
