Don’t you just love Sundays? I’m writing this after having a lie in, drinking cacao butter blended coffee, going for a walk in the woods with James (we spotted some Deer!) and then devouring a plate of pancakes. As I mentioned on Friday we are now on holiday for the week so we both feel very relaxed. Yesterday was a lovely day too, I had a little lie in then made some blended coffee with some new organic butter I’d picked up from my local farm shop:

I added a few drops of vanilla stevia and it tasted great!

Then I made a coconut flour microwave bake along with an apple and almond butter:

Photo 09-02-2013 08 18 16

I had also got that apple from the farm shop, it was one of the most delicious apples I’ve had in a long time!

Then I got ready to head into town:

I layered up to try and stay warm! When I was in Newcastle I picked up a few things from the market and met up with a lovely Uniquely Healthy client for a session. I treated myself to another good coffee:

Pumphries is a Newcastle institution and makes the best coffee! Then it was home via my Mam and Dad’s to see them and my nephews.

Lunch was a really fab salad made with more goodies from the farm shop – some smoked bacon and avocado with balsamic dressing:

I am having a bit of a bacon phase at the moment it seems!

Mid afternoon I snacked on a tub of full fat organic cottage cheese topped with some raw snack mix:

Photo 09-02-2013 15 11 44

After pottering about in the flat I had a relaxing bath then made dinner, a chicken curry made with some Rustic Indian Tarka sauce, cauliflower ‘rice’ and steamed broccoli:

Photo 09-02-2013 18 36 07

That sauce was really good, loved this meal!

Then for a Saturday night treat I had a nice big bar of the most amazing raw chocolate:

I had won this in a competition over at Sharon’s blog and my word it was amazing! I popped it in the freezer for a few minutes so it was extra crunchy. It’s from Magic Mayan Chocolate – I would definitely recommend!

Then it was a bottle of red between me and James while we watched TV, and in my usual style I was blotto after a couple of glasses…

A great end to a lovely Saturday! I’ve just realised that I got pics of pretty much everything I ate yesterday so this is a bit of an unofficial What I Ate Saturday.

I had visited the farm shop at the end of the week and it had reminded me to visit more often, especially for locally raised and butchered meat, local organic dairy and the best free range eggs I’ve ever had. Their products are also reasonably affordable and on a good par with supermarket prices so I’m going to try and make more effort to spend my money there when I can and support a local business. I also love going to the market for fruit and veg! I’ve just been reading more on the Acorn Dairy website and they sound really good so I will have to try and purchase more from them.

Do you have a favourite brand of chocolate? I have to say that Crazy Caramel is going to take some beating! Do you ever visit a farm shop or farmer market? I wish we had farmers markets here in the UK on the scale that they seem to be in the US. I don’t think I would stop shopping at the supermarket but it would be nice to make more effort to shop with local businesses as well.  How about coffee, if you are a coffee fan do you have a favourite kind or a favourite coffee shop?

That raw chocolate sounds amazing. I wish we had farm shops on the same scale as the US too. I love having fresh and local produce like that. In lucky that there are lots if farms where I live that raise their own near and sell their eggs. Although I haven’t taken advantage if the meat yet. Our village shop sells a lot of local produce from the area and you can order in too. :)

I love it when you drive past places and they have the signs for farm fresh eggs, I keep meaning to stop and buy a load of them!

Wow – raw chocolate with caramel?! Definitely checking that out. Sounds like a perfect weekend, you can never beat treating yourself to a good coffee. We have a shop in Bristol called Two Day Roast – they only sell black coffee or filter with beans grounds that are no more than two days old. So fresh and intense! I totally know what you mean about local tasting better, I’ve been buying from our local deli and the fruit and veg is great. Organic apples seem to taste a million times better too and are so huge!

The Magic Mayan Chocolate is amazing! They stock it in The Happy Pear now and you can buy it direct online from Magic Mayan themselves! I highly recommended the Bee Pollen one and the cashew one tastes like milk chocolate!

That chocolate looks amazing! I rarely buy chocolate, just not really that into it, but if I do tuck into some it will be either raw chocolate or very very dark chocolate, I just bought a bar of 100% chocolate when I went to Cork, so bitter, I love it. I also like the raw ombars. I love visiting the local farmers market and stocking up on fresh fruit and veggies.

That raw chocolate looks amazing. I love coffee but am no coffee snob, Starbucks all the way for me and I always get a soy cappuccino. I find other coffee really, really strong! x

Err, wow. That raw chocolate bar looks beyond incredible. I generally prefer carob to chocolate but in this case I’m sure I’d make an exception!

I love coffee. Far too much. I used to be a Starbucks yuppie but since I can’t have soy milk any more I stick to my M&S Italian Blend at home, with rice milk. Still can’t drink coffee black, though I wish I could.

It is indeed a shame that markets aren’t bigger and better over here – I wish there was a stall with a million varieties of squash – they seem to be ubiquitous in the US!

M&S Italian sounds good, I’ve just been there too and needed coffee wish I had thought about trying some. I do still love good old Starbucks though! I agree with the squash, such a shame we can’t seem to get much more than butternut apart from that one farmers market in Oct!

Coffee and chocolate… two of my favorite things :D I’ve never seen that brand of chocolate before, but I’m a big fan of caramel and chocolate combined, so I imagine that it would be delicious. I really love Dagoba chocolate, but when it all comes down to it, any chocolate is good chocolate! As for coffee, I don’t think I’d be able to live without my daily cappuccino from Starbucks – it just always adds a little bit of brightness to my day.

I had some Dagoba chocolate when I went to NYC and it was gorgeous! I’m with you on coffee adding brightness to your day, I have such a habit going on with my blended coffees right now but they make me happy!

Ohhh that chocolate <3 <3 definitely agree that it's one of the best I've tried along with the Righteously Raw caramel one which is made from lucuma and dates so is just obviously going to be amazing haha!
I've never actually been to Pumphrey's but may have to give it a go now! I am a Starbucks fan definitely though above all of the other coffee brands and I'm just a simple black coffee with vanilla syrup girl. If I'm going to have coffee then I'm going to have a strong one! That saying, I only drink it when I meet people so it's not often :) Looking forward to our coffee date already to get my fix hehe!

I am with you on the americano with vanilla now too, I used to love a soya latte but I just can’t stomach them recently for some reason, even the vanilla syrup is getting a bit too sweet! That chocolate with the dates and lucuma sounds amazing!

That chocolate looks amazing- I have to say for raw chocolate I think conscious chocolate is the best- I love their unusual flavours too, like the one with goji berries.
For normal chocolate, Montezuma’s or Hotel Chocolat for a special treat :)

PS< talking of local things I keep meaning to mention to you that when I got my order of tea from the Quillam brothers (to top up the fab tea I bought at Olive and Bean in Newcastle) they included a leaflet that they are opening a teahouse in Newcastle- apparently it will offer a selection of loose leaf teas, hearty food, and be a platform for Newcastle's art and music scene, and will be open late too. If you join their mailing list they will let you know about it- just thought you might be interested?

You know I didn’t realise just how much better the farm stuff is compared to supermarket but it really is – what a difference, no preservatives – I hate that sheen you get on supermarket stuff, ick!

When I was a teenager I worked for a small independent fruit and veg shop, and everything was so heap, it is such a shame they closed down as I would make a huge use of them now! Considering I live in the country we don’t have many farm shops, and the ones we do have a hideously over priced, they hike up the prices so much!
