Hi everyone, how’s it going? Ready for the weekend yet? I most certainly am, but I have today off again to ‘work’ so I’m kind of starting the weekend early, yey!
I’m just hoping that we don’t get anymore damn snow! I can’t believe that this time last year it was pretty warm!
So I’ve been cracking on with my little conscious living experiment and its been amazing. I’m noticing lots of little things and learning more about myself in the process, for example this breakfast held me over for 6 hours:
Sweet potato topped with coconut oil and two fried eggs, so delicious and satisfying! This breakfast did me for about 4 hours:
I wanted to try oats again. Not so much because I was craving them, I just wanted to see how my body reacted after not having them in a while. I soaked some oats in water with a little lemon juice overnight (to reduce anti nutrients and make them creamier) then cooked them in water with a whole egg whisked in and topped with butter and maple syrup. I also had a small glass of raw milk on the side. My digestion was excellent after this (no bloating or gas) but it didn’t hold me over as long as I thought it would, although I am thinking that fat and carbs seem to be a good combo for me.
Post gym (so later than I’d usually eat breakfast) I made the most gorgeous milkshake like smoothie:
This was a banana, frozen strawberries and raw organic milk topped with some bee pollen and it was really good!
Other meals have been soup and salads. On Monday I was craving soup so made a pan of my pea, broccoli and pesto soup with some beef bone broth as the base:
Oh this soup is so good! Warm and comforting but nice for the spring. Then salads have been with salmon, and for the first time, mackerel!
I bought a tin of mackerel packed in olive oil to try and I was pleasantly surprised! Great source of omega 3s and affordable to boot! I had it with home made sauerkraut and jalapeno stuffed olives.
One day I had a sweet potato with salmon and spinach for lunch:
That really did the trick, I’m thinking that sweet potatoes are the way forward!
Dinner has been a pork loin with veggies. One evening kale and cauliflower mash and the other pesto cauli rice and steamed veggies:
Plus butter on the veggies. Then desserts have been fruit with coconut cream:
Sometimes followed with a chunk of raw chocolate when that hasn’t quite satisfied me!
Most random meal of the week has to go to..
Dates stuffed with goats cheese, eaten after a sliced red pepper and a bowl of that soup. This was just what I fancied so I went with it!
Workouts this week…
- Weekend – REST
- Monday – Gym workout, 5 min cross trainer, plank, LiveFit inspired workout chest, back, abs 10 min treadmill jog
- Tuesday – 30 minute walk and a bit of yoga to stretch when I got home
- Wednesday – Gym workout, 5 min cross trainer, plank, LiveFit inspired workout legs, shoulders, 10 min bike
- Thursday – REST
- Friday – Gym workout, 5 min cross trainer, LiveFit inspired workout legs, arms, abs, 5 minutes step machine
Alongside the food stuff I’m also trying to be conscious when it comes to exercise and doing what I feel like. I jogged on the treadmill instead of the bike on Monday because I felt like it and I have given myself complete permission to skip exercise altogether if I feel I need to, but so far I’ve been really looking forward to my workouts as usual.
On the Love List this week…
Despite the cold and snow I am still enjoying being outdoors and I love getting wrapped up in my hat and scarf! Also…
Going out for dinner with fellow IIN student Hiba, we went to Las Iguanas and enjoyed some tasty South American cuisine // my hubby being interviewed for a radio station linked to his music blog // buying a new handbag with some Topshop vouchers // chilling out with Reiki and acupuncture // milk shakes
In case you missed it…there’s rather a lot so get ready!

I love huge protein smoothies for filling breakfasts, plus eggs and avocado. I had an amazing sweet potato breakfast this week topped with cottage cheese, blueberries and honeycomb- it was divine. Sweet potatoes are quite an addiction of mine they are just so versatile. Makerel is quite a fishy fish, but it’s great in salads and steamed veggies, yum!

I didn’t think the mackerel was too bad, I had expected it to be more fishy, perhaps that’s why I was surprised at how nice it tasted. Yep sweet potatoes are the bomb :-)
It was the last week in March that we had a mini heatwave last year – I know because I always take that week off work! I’ve got it off again this year and I’m still holding out hope that this weather will turn itself around in time! :-)

I can remember, it was amazing wasn’t it, I have my fingers crossed that it will improve for Easter!
I definitely do not want anymore snow!! It’s ruining everything!
It’s great that you’re starting to work out what works for you :) I think I need to bring sweet potatoes back into my life..it’s been a while since I had one!
I’ve had a funny week really, I was ill in bed all day on Sunday and since then I’ve felt really ‘off’ and today I am really ill again with a virus so yeah..not the best of weeks for me! I hope I can enjoy a least a bit of the weekend though…that saying, on the love list for me this week would have to be receiving my Nutribox for the month and treating myself to inSpiral kale chips <3

Tell me about it, I just want a little sun! Hope you feel better soon petal, no fun being poorly :-( Glad your nutribox has cheered you up! I’m down in London next week and may just have to get some kale chips although I should really make some myself in the dehydrator!
I’m going to be subscribing to your YouTube Channel! I love this challenge!

Thanks Liz!
It’s been snowing here for the past two days, and with less than a week left until spring officially hits, it definitely looks a whole lot more like winter. Brr. Still, I’m loving the fact that the days are getting longer and that warmer days are on the horizon.
As for breakfast, I find a good yogurt mess to be the most satisfying, but how long it keeps me full for really depends on the day. Somedays it lasts me until lunch, and others I’m hungry a few hours later. I find that to be the case with most meals that I eat, though – it varies a lot.

Yes I think the days getting longer is definitely a bonus even when snow is on the ground. I think there are some meals that definitely keep me going longer but its also effected by other things like how busy I am etc. If I’m bored I get hungry a lot sooner!
I find squash the most satisfying breakfast, without question. It needs peanut flour on it though, so I suppose I’m a protein/carb combo person? Fat does nothing to fill me up or keep me going at all – really I can do entirely without it from a nutrition perspective. From a taste perspective I love nuts and nut butters but they’re just pointless because I eat ridiculous amounts of them.
I loved the YouTube video you posted by the way – you’ve really become so natural on camera :)
xxx
For me its squash and coconut milk or yoghurt so yep I think if I’m carb and fat you must be carb and protein! I had a bit of an incident with tahini yesterday and ate far too much. I think that even when I am ‘listening to my body’ nut butters are very difficult for me to enjoy in moderation. Another firm lesson learned! Glad you liked the video, I think I just try and forget about the fact that people are going to be watching it and just waffle on ;-)
Sweet potato and egg sounds like an AMAZING combo! x

Hope work goes well and you enjoy your afternoons off!
I defintely notice oats don’t keep me full, even with protein powder etc stirred in, I get hungry a couple of hours later, whereas if I have a smoothie or a juice I don’t get hungry for much longer. I’m working tomorrow, but Sunday I shall be celebrating St.Patricks day in style!

It’s weird isn’t it, just like we were saying on FB, I really thought that oats with something like an egg would keep me going but no luck! Hope you have an awesome St Patrick’s Day!
I love sweet potatoes, they have started to become one of my go to’s! Your random plate sounds fabulous!
Thanks! Yes sweet potatoes have become a major stable for me again!
I’ve seen so much yummy looking sweet potato/egg/almond butter deliciousness on your blog that I actually bought sweet potatoes this week as a result! What can i say? You just tickled my taste buds :-) xxx

Hope you enjoy them! I’ve just created this amazing sweet potato and coconut bake thing for breakfast, can’t get enough of them at the moment!
The weather is crazy- this time last year I came out of hospital and it was so warm- Andy did the Silverstone half and nearly collapsed of heat exhaustion, and I was having all the windows open at home as it was so warm.
Dates and goats cheese sound like a fab combo.
And I had no idea about the google reader- I think that is what I use. Although I am not sure!

Your food looks delicious, particularly those sweet potato meals! I haven’t had one in a couple of weeks, I think this needs to be fixed!
I love your scarf and hat – so cute :) I’ve been wrapping up lots to leave the house too lately. I can’t believe how cold it is! Hopefully it’ll be warmer by the end of the month for my birthday…
